As you may be aware, there will be a Physical Plant & Equipment Levy (PPEL) on the ballot Tuesday, November 4.
Lake Mills CSD is one of the more than 86% of Iowa school districts that currently have a voted PPEL in place. We are asking our community to renew this critical funding source, which allows us to cover the costs of infrastructure and equipment repairs, purchases, and improvements. This levy must be approved by district residents every 10 years.
Our voted PPEL provided about $510,000 in funding in Fiscal Year 2025 alone. We plan on using these funds for the following purposes in the years ahead:
-
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
-
Equipment purchases
-
Building maintenance
-
Roof repairs
-
Student technology
-
Buses and transportation
A renewed PPEL will not increase property tax rates or create a new tax. If the measure on the November 4 ballot is approved by a majority of voters, Lake Mills CSD’s voted PPEL would remain in place through 2039 at the existing rate of $1.34 per $1,000 of taxable property value.
It’s important to note that this is a maximum authorization, not a guaranteed set rate in future years. The board may set a lower rate in future budget years.
I encourage you to share this information and the attached fact sheet with any families or community members who may be interested. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Thanks!
