The students began this project by using a ruler and marking off every 1/2 inch around the border of a piece of construction paper. Next, a dot was placed anywhere on the paper. Using a ruler, the dot was connected to every mark on the outside of the paper by drawing with a colored pencil. The process was repeated 2 to 3 more times using different colors of colored pencils. Working on this project allowed the students to demonstrate techniques associated with drawing, which is a 5th grade drawing unit outcome. The designs are shown below.
