The students began this project by drawing 2-3 flowers on a poster board. Drawing the flowers big enough to fill up the paper was very important. After drawing the flowers, the students drew a brick grid in the background. Watercolor paint was used for the grid and flowers for this project. Keeping the paint transparent was a goal of the students. Finally, a black marker was used to outline the shapes.
Making these projects allowed the students to develop skills to properly use brush and paint, which is a painting unit outcome for second graders. The stained glass flowers are shown below.
